Obscure 80s Bands/Artists: Russ Ballard
Russ Ballard
Russ Ballard is a singer/song writer who had a couple of hits in the 80s, but is probably best known for his song "voices" that was played on the Miami Vice TV Show.
Ballard has written several hit songs for other artists. Some of his songs include "Winning" by Santana, "You Can Do Magic" by America, and "I Know There's Something Going On" by Frida. However in the blog entry, we will concentrate on his own music.
Ballard charted briefly early in the 80s, with his song "On The Rebound". It reached as high as #58 on the Billboard charts in 1980.
In 1984, his song "Voices" was featured on an episode of Miami Vice. While it never broke the top 100 of the Billboard charts, it received pretty heavy airplay on MTV. I am pretty sure you will recognize the below song when you listen to it:
Ballard also had a minor hit in 1985 with the song "A Fire Still Burns":
