Yes they were from Germany. At least the band was formed in Germany and Rob was born in Munich... although he didn't actually sing the songs... And I don't know if this qualifies as a best of the 80s, since it was huge when it came out, but was totally discreditted when the world found out Fab and Rob didn't actually sing on the record... oh well, here it is:
Falco - Rock Me Amadeus
Ok, He was actually from Austria... but he sang in German... A little known fact in the US is that Falco's first hit song was "Der Kommissar". This was a German language song, that was turned into a big English language hit by the band After the Fire in 1983.
